Short answer: the best Shopify shipping app for a Swedish store covers PostNord, DHL Freight and Budbee or Instabox, shows their pickup points and lockers at checkout, and prints labels in bulk. Packrooster and Shipmondo cover all of them on your own agreements. If one carrier is enough, the single-carrier apps for PostNord, DHL, Budbee or Instabox cost less.
TL;DR
- Most Swedish stores need at least two carriers: PostNord for national coverage and its pickup points, and DHL Freight for DHL Service Point, which many shoppers prefer. Add Budbee or Instabox if your customers live in the cities they cover and want lockers or evening home delivery.
- Sweden is a pickup-point country. In a March 2026 survey, 43% of Swedish online shoppers collected their latest parcel at a pickup point, 37% got it delivered home and 20% used a parcel locker (Transportföretagen Paketindex). Compare that with Finland, where lockers carry about half of all online orders.
- Shopify's own label buying doesn't include PostNord, Budbee or Instabox. A Swedish store needs an app for labels as well as for checkout.
- Sweden is in the EU, so parcels to Finland, Denmark and Germany need no customs documents. Parcels to Norway, the UK and Switzerland do.
- Checkout features such as live rates and pickup-point pickers depend on your Shopify plan. Check that before you compare apps.
What a Shopify shipping app does for a Swedish store
A Shopify shipping app connects your store to carriers so customers can choose a delivery option at checkout and you can print the label when the order comes in. For a Swedish store that usually means PostNord and DHL Freight first, then Budbee, Instabox, Airmee or CityMail for home delivery and lockers, and DHL Express or UPS for parcels going further afield.
Without an app, you're copying addresses into the PostNord portal or DHL's booking tool by hand. That works for a few orders a week and falls apart quickly after that. Swedish e-commerce reached a record SEK 153 billion in 2025, up 10% on the year before (PostNord E-barometern, February 2026), and volumes are still climbing. Swedish e-retailers sent 64.2 million parcels in the first quarter of 2026, 16.9% more than a year earlier (Transportföretagen Paketindex, May 2026).
The same report shows where the competition comes from. 32.8% of those parcels came from abroad, the highest share Paketindex has recorded. Shoppers who get used to cheap, fast delivery from foreign marketplaces expect the same choice from Swedish stores, which is one more reason to offer more than a single carrier.
What to compare before you choose
These five things decide whether an app fits a Swedish store:
- PostNord, DHL and a locker or home-delivery carrier. Many Swedish shoppers have a favourite. Some always pick DHL Service Point, others want a Budbee box or an Instabox locker near home. Offering only PostNord costs you orders.
- Live pickup points at checkout. The customer should be able to pick an actual pickup point (ombud) or locker near their address before paying, with the list coming live from the carrier. A fixed list you type in yourself goes out of date.
- How you pay for shipping. Do you use your own agreements with PostNord, DHL and Budbee, or buy shipping on the app's rates? That decides most of your cost, not the app's monthly fee.
- Labels in bulk. Look for batch printing, printing by location and automatic printing when an order is paid.
- Customs documents for Norway and the UK. Inside the EU you don't need them, but Norway is a natural next market for many Swedish webshops. Every parcel to Norway needs a customs declaration, so the app should create the documents from your product data.

A couple of notes on the table. "Pickup points at checkout" means the customer picks a specific point or locker before paying, not that you choose one afterwards in the admin. Budbee and Instabox are owned by the same company, Instabee, but still run as separate brands with separate apps and agreements.
The pricing models, explained
Monthly app fees get compared most and matter least. What you pay the carrier per parcel is where the real money is, and that's set by the pricing model.
Your own carrier agreements
You sign an agreement with PostNord, DHL or Budbee. The carrier invoices you directly at your agreed prices. The app connects to the carrier, puts its services and pickup points in your checkout and prints the labels, and you pay the app a monthly fee and sometimes a small per-label fee.
Packrooster and nShift work this way, and it's what Shipmondo's paid plans and Fraktjakt's own-agreement option add. It suits stores that ship enough to negotiate, or that already have agreements and want to keep them. If you've never negotiated with a carrier, our guide to negotiating carrier rates covers how to start.
The app's rates, paid per parcel
The app company has its own agreements with carriers and sells shipping to you at its price list. No contract, often no monthly fee, and the app's margin sits in the parcel price. Shipmondo's Free plan and Fraktjakt both work this way. It's a reasonable way for a new store to start. As volume grows, compare the per-parcel price with what PostNord or DHL would offer you directly, and watch the invoice for surcharges and extra fees.
A carrier's own app
DHL eCom Sweden, Budbee and Instabox are made by the carriers themselves, and each ships with that carrier only. They're free and a good fit if one carrier is all you need. The day you want PostNord and Budbee in your checkout as well, you'll need a second or third app, and running several shipping apps side by side gets messy.
Check your Shopify plan first
Apps that add their own rates or pickup-point pickers to checkout usually rely on Shopify's third-party carrier-calculated shipping. According to Shopify, it's included on Advanced and Plus. Grow stores can add it for a monthly fee or get it by switching to annual billing. Basic stores don't get it.
DHL eCom Sweden says this directly on its listing: the app needs carrier-calculated shipping turned on to work. If you're on Basic, the cheapest fix is often Grow on annual billing.
Which app fits which store
A small store that only uses PostNord or DHL. A single-carrier app is enough. DHL eCom Sweden is free and comes from DHL itself, and PostNord by SYNKA+ starts at $10 a month. Switch to a multi-carrier app when you add a second carrier.
A new store with no carrier agreements yet. Ship on an app's rates while you build volume. Shipmondo's Free plan and Fraktjakt both let you book PostNord and DHL without your own agreement. Review the per-parcel price once you're sending a couple of hundred parcels a month.
A store that wants PostNord, DHL and Budbee or Instabox in one checkout. Packrooster and Shipmondo both cover them on your own agreements. Packrooster has no setup fees, is built in the Nordics and is available in Swedish. Shipmondo has lower per-label fees but charges a one-off €60 per carrier customer number, and it has a free plan if you'd rather ship on its rates for now. Work out both at your own label volume and number of carriers before you decide.
A store that sells to Norway and Finland. Norway needs customs documents on every parcel, and if you sell low-value goods to Norwegian consumers you'll also need to look at VOEC. Packrooster covers Bring and Helthjem for Norway and Posti and Matkahuolto for Finland as well as the Swedish carriers. Shipmondo is strongest in Denmark. nShift covers almost everything at a quoted price.
A larger business with an ERP, WMS or several sales channels. nShift is built for that and has a long history in Sweden. Ingrid's customers are mainly larger Shopify Plus stores that want a heavily customised checkout. Packrooster connects to WMS and ERP systems on its Premium plan and to nShift as well, which helps if part of your operation already runs on it.
How to do this in Shopify with Packrooster
Packrooster Shipping is made by Approosters in Finland, and it's what we know best, so here is how setup works with it. Packrooster doesn't sell shipping or show carrier prices. You connect your own carrier agreements, and the carriers bill you directly.
- Install Packrooster from the Shopify App Store and pick a plan. The app is available in Swedish. Pickup points at checkout are included from the Standard plan, and like the other checkout apps here, they need carrier-calculated shipping on your Shopify plan.
- Connect your carriers. Add your PostNord customer number with Sweden as the account issuer, your DHL Freight Sweden API details, and your Budbee or Instabox credentials.
- Set your checkout rates. Choose which services customers see, for example PostNord service points and parcel lockers, DHL Service Point, Budbee Box and Budbee home delivery, and what you charge for each: flat rates, free shipping over a basket value, or rules based on weight, product, zone or customer. Pickup points and service lists come live from the carriers.
- Print labels. Create labels one at a time, in bulk or automatically when an order is paid, sorted by Shopify location if you ship from several.
- Ship outside the EU. For parcels to Norway, the UK or Switzerland, Packrooster generates the customs documents from the product data in your store when the label is created.
The PostNord, DHL Freight Sweden, Budbee and Instabox pages list the services supported for each carrier, and there are pages for Airmee, CityMail and DSV Sweden too. The shipping from Sweden guide covers carriers, transit times and customs in more depth. More about the app on the Packrooster Shipping page.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best shipping app for Shopify in Sweden?
It depends on which carriers you need and how you buy shipping. If you want PostNord, DHL and Budbee or Instabox in one checkout on your own agreements, Packrooster and Shipmondo are the main options. If one carrier is enough, the carriers' own apps (DHL eCom Sweden, Budbee, Instabox) are free. Larger businesses with ERP or WMS systems often use nShift.
Does Shopify support PostNord?
Not on its own. Shopify's built-in label buying doesn't include PostNord, Budbee or Instabox. You need an app such as Packrooster, Shipmondo or PostNord by SYNKA+ to show PostNord delivery options at checkout and print PostNord labels.
How do I add PostNord pickup points to Shopify checkout?
Install a shipping app that supports PostNord pickup points, connect your PostNord customer number and turn on the service point and parcel locker services as shipping methods. Check that your Shopify plan includes carrier-calculated shipping (Advanced, Plus, or Grow with the add-on or annual billing), because most pickup-point pickers depend on it.
Can I offer Budbee and Instabox in Shopify?
Yes. Budbee and Instabox each have their own free Shopify app, but each covers only that carrier. To offer them next to PostNord and DHL in the same checkout, use a multi-carrier app. Packrooster and Shipmondo support both. Budbee and Instabox only deliver in the areas they cover, mostly larger cities, so keep PostNord or DHL as the fallback for everyone else.
Is there a free Shopify shipping app for Sweden?
DHL eCom Sweden, Budbee and Instabox are free to install, but each one covers a single carrier. Shipmondo has a free plan where you ship on its rates, and Fraktjakt has a free basic account, though its Shopify app costs from $10 a month. Packrooster's Starter plan is free on your own agreements, but pickup points at checkout start on the paid Standard plan. In every case you still pay for each parcel.
Do I need customs documents when shipping from Sweden?
Not to other EU countries. A parcel from Sweden to Finland, Denmark or Germany moves inside the EU customs union. Parcels to Norway, the UK and Switzerland are exports and need a customs declaration, so an app that creates the documents when you print the label saves a lot of manual work. Our customs declaration guide explains what goes on the form.
Which Shopify plan do I need for pickup points at checkout?
Most pickup-point apps need Shopify's third-party carrier-calculated shipping, which is included on Advanced and Plus and available on Grow for an extra monthly fee or with annual billing.
