How HS codes work

Every country classifies goods with the Harmonized System. The first six digits are the same everywhere. Each customs territory then adds its own digits on top, which is why a carrier usually asks for the code of the country the parcel is going to.

61Chapter: knitted clothing 61 10Heading: jerseys, pullovers, cardigans 61 10 20HS subheading: of cotton (same worldwide) 61 10 20 xx+ 2 national digits (EU, Norway, UK) 61 10 20 xx xx+ 2 more for UK import declarations

Which code should I use?

Use the code of the destination country. For parcels between EU countries no customs declaration is needed at all. When a carrier asks for 8 digits, give the 8-digit code for the destination. If your product fits more than one line, choose the one whose material, gender or use matches best.

Is this code guaranteed to be correct?

No. This tool suggests codes from official tariff data, but the sender is responsible for the classification. For a binding decision, contact the customs authority of the destination country.

Codes are suggestions based on official tariff data. The sender is responsible for the final classification.
