History of DSV

DSV was founded in Denmark in 1976, when ten independent hauliers joined forces to form a shared trucking company. The name comes from the Danish "De Sammensluttede Vognmænd", meaning "the united hauliers". The company went public on the Copenhagen stock exchange in 1987.

DSV grew mainly through acquisitions. Key deals included DFDS Dan Transport (2000), Frans Maas (2006), ABX Logistics (2008), UTi Worldwide (2016), Panalpina (2019) and Agility's Global Integrated Logistics business (2021). Each one added new markets and services, turning a Danish road haulier into a global freight forwarder working across air, sea, road and rail.

The biggest step came in 2025, when DSV completed its acquisition of DB Schenker from Deutsche Bahn for 14.3 billion euros, following approval from the European Commission. It was the largest transaction in DSV's history, and it brought Schenker's own history into the group, going back to 1872, when Gottfried Schenker founded the company in Vienna.

Today, the combined company has roughly doubled in size, with revenue of around DKK 310 billion and close to 160,000 employees across more than 90 countries. DSV handles millions of shipments every year and is one of the largest transport and logistics providers in the world.
