What is GLS Denmark?

GLS is one of Denmark's leading parcel carriers, delivering nationwide with next-business-day delivery, 1,800+ ParcelShops, and nine depots across the country. It is part of the pan-European GLS Group, which covers 41 European countries and reaches into North America, giving Danish merchants both dense domestic coverage and broad cross-border reach.

Users searching for GLS Denmark typically want to know about delivery reliability, delivery times, parcel tracking, ParcelShop pickup locations, and pricing. GLS delivers across Denmark the next business day with 99% reliability, offers real-time Track & Trace and its own delivery app, and is among the highest-rated Danish carriers on Trustpilot. Strong signals for both private recipients and online stores.

The carrier is widely used for national B2B delivery, business-to-consumer webshop delivery, returns, and cross-border European distribution, making it a natural fit for Shopify merchants shipping within Denmark and out to the rest of Europe. GLS handles parcels up to 30 kg, with shipment insurance up to DKK 4,500 per parcel and a digital recipient signature available online.

GLS also invests in climate-neutral parcel delivery and lower-emission transport, reducing and offsetting the carbon footprint of its shipments. Which is increasingly important trust signal for modern consumers and merchants.

Brief history of GLS Denmark

GLS traces its roots to 1989, when it was founded as German Parcel, formed by bringing together 25 independent freight forwarders into a single parcel network.

In 1999, the company was acquired by the Royal Mail Group and reorganized into a new pan-European holding, later established as General Logistics Systems (GLS) the brand under which it operates today.

As part of its European expansion, GLS built out its Danish operation into a nationwide network of depots and 1,800+ ParcelShops, while shifting its focus from traditional freight toward the fast-growing demands of eCommerce and cross-border parcel delivery.

Today, GLS Denmark is one of the country's leading parcel carriers, part of a group spanning 41 European countries (owned by International Distribution Services) and handling millions of deliveries each year for businesses and online stores shipping within Denmark and across Europe.
