Short answer: Shipit Delivery Checkout suits a store that wants to ship on Shipit's own carrier agreements and pay per parcel, with no monthly fee. Packrooster suits a store that has, or wants, its own carrier agreements and needs carriers in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. You don't have to pick only one model: Packrooster can also ship on Shipit's agreements.
TL;DR
- The real difference is how you buy shipping. Shipit is an aggregator. It has its own agreements with Posti, Matkahuolto, PostNord and other carriers and sells you shipping at its prices. Packrooster doesn't sell shipping. You connect your own carrier agreements, and the carriers invoice you directly.
- Shipit's "free" means no monthly fee when you ship on Shipit's rates. You still pay for every parcel. If you bring your own carrier agreements, Shipit charges a monthly package fee (€9.90-€99.90) and €0.14-€0.20 per label.
- Packrooster connects to Shipit. A store without its own agreements can ship on Shipit's agreements inside Packrooster and add its own contracts later, without switching apps.
- Both apps need Shopify's carrier-calculated shipping for pickup points at checkout. On Shopify Basic, neither can show a pickup-point picker.
- Nordic note: both companies are Finnish and both cover Posti and Matkahuolto. Where they differ is outside Finland. Packrooster has direct integrations with Bring and Helthjem for Norway, Instabox, Airmee and CityMail for Sweden and GLS Denmark, and the app is available in Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian. If you ship abroad, check each app's carrier list against the countries you sell to.
Two ways to buy shipping
Most of what you pay for shipping goes to the carrier, not the app. So before comparing features, it helps to know which of the two models you're signing up for.
Shipping on an aggregator's agreements
An aggregator negotiates volume agreements with carriers and resells shipping to merchants. You register, create labels and get one invoice for all carriers. No contract with Posti or Matkahuolto, no minimum volume and, in Shipit's case, no monthly fee on its Free package. The aggregator earns from the shipments themselves.
Shipit publishes example business prices for this mode. On 20 October 2026, a Posti Postipaketti up to 2 kg was listed at €6.10, a Matkahuolto Lähellä-paketti up to 2 kg at €5.73 and a PostNord parcel locker shipment up to 20 kg at €5.60, all excluding VAT and including the fuel surcharge. Shipit notes that these prices change, sometimes weekly.
This model works well for a new store. Volumes are low, a carrier wouldn't give you much of a discount yet, and one invoice is easier to manage.
Shipping on your own carrier agreements
You sign an agreement with Posti, Matkahuolto, PostNord or another carrier. The carrier invoices you at your agreed prices. The shipping app connects to the carrier, shows its services and pickup points at checkout and prints the labels. You pay the app a monthly fee and usually a small fee per label.
This is how Packrooster works. It suits stores that already have agreements, or that ship enough to negotiate their own. If you haven't negotiated with a carrier before, our guide to negotiating carrier rates explains how to start. Whichever model you choose, watch your invoices for surcharges and extra fees.
Why this matters: Finnish consumers received 69.3 million e-commerce parcels in 2025, 13.8% more than the year before (Digital Commerce Finland, Paketti-indeksi). As your share of that grows, so does the gap between what an aggregator charges and what you could negotiate yourself. That gap is what decides which model is cheaper for you, not the app's monthly fee.
What Shipit's "free" covers
The Shipit Delivery Checkout app is free to install, and its Shopify listing says label prices vary by carrier. The fees depend on which Shipit TMS package you're on and whose carrier agreements you use.
| Shipit TMS package | Monthly fee | Your own carrier agreements | Fee per label on your own agreements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | Not available (Shipit's agreements only) | - |
| Start | €9.90 | 1 carrier | €0.20 |
| Growth | €49.90 | 3 carriers | €0.16 |
| Pro | €99.90 | No limit | €0.14 |
Source: Shipit TMS price list, checked 20 October 2026. Each additional carrier agreement costs €9.90 a month. Return labels on your own agreements cost the same as outgoing labels.
So "free" is accurate in one situation: you ship on Shipit's agreements, on the Free package. The moment you want to use your own Posti or Matkahuolto agreement, you move to a paid package and pay per label as well.
Shipit also offers paid setup help for the Shopify app: a basic setup at €100 + VAT (billed per started hour, estimated under an hour) and a custom setup at €180 + VAT per started hour. You can also set the app up yourself from Shipit's guides. Add-ons such as the Shopify returns app (€9.90 a month per 100 returns) are priced separately.
What Packrooster costs

Two notes on the table. "Pickup points at checkout" means the customer chooses a specific pickup point or locker before paying, with the list coming live from the carrier. And the carrier lists aren't directly comparable: Packrooster's are its own integrations with each carrier, while Shipit's are the carriers available through Shipit's platform.
Using Shipit through Packrooster
This is the part many merchants miss when comparing the two. Packrooster has a Shipit integration, so Shipit works as one of your carrier connections inside Packrooster. Labels, pickup points, return labels and customs documents all work through it.
In practice, it gives you three options:
- Ship on Shipit's agreements only. You don't have carrier agreements of your own yet. Connect your Shipit account in Packrooster, and Shipit invoices the shipments at its prices.
- Mix both. You have your own agreement with Posti, but not with Matkahuolto. Connect Posti directly and use Shipit for the rest.
- Move to your own agreements over time. As volume grows and you negotiate your own agreements, connect those carriers directly. Your checkout rules, label printing and order flow stay the same.
Shipit invoices the shipments you make on its agreements, and Packrooster's normal plan and label fees apply, as with any other carrier.
Check your Shopify plan first
Both apps show pickup points at checkout through Shopify's third-party carrier-calculated shipping. According to Shopify and Shipit, it's included on Advanced and Plus, and on Grow with annual billing. Grow stores on monthly billing can add it for a fee. Basic stores don't get it.
Shipit says this directly: on Basic, pickup-point selection at checkout isn't available, though the rest of the app works with fixed-price shipping methods you set up in Shopify. The same applies to Packrooster. If pickup points matter to your customers, and in Finland they usually do, the cheapest fix is often Grow on annual billing.
Pickup points aren't a nice-to-have. In a Baymard Institute survey, 48% of US shoppers who abandoned a cart did so because extra costs such as shipping were too high (Baymard, 2024). Letting customers pick a cheaper locker or pickup point at checkout is one of the easiest ways to keep that cost down.
Which one fits your store
A new Finnish store with no carrier agreements. Shipit is a natural place to start. Its Free package lets you ship with Posti, Matkahuolto and PostNord without a contract or monthly fee. If you'd rather start in Packrooster, you can ship on Shipit's agreements there too, which saves moving apps later.
A store that already has its own Posti, Matkahuolto or PostNord agreement. Both apps can use it. With Shipit, check which package you'd need for the number of carriers you use, and add the per-label fee. With Packrooster, every plan includes unlimited carriers. Put both against your own monthly label volume before you decide; the Shopify shipping app price comparison tool helps with that.
A store that sells to Sweden, Norway or Denmark. Finnish online retailers sent nearly 1.7 million parcels to customers abroad in 2025, up 20.6% (Paketti-indeksi). Once part of your volume leaves Finland, carrier coverage matters. Packrooster has direct integrations with Bring and Helthjem for Norway, Instabox, Airmee and CityMail for Sweden and GLS Denmark, and generates customs documents for Norway and other non-EU destinations. If you ship to Norway, also read up on VOEC.
A store on Shopify Basic. Neither app can show pickup points at checkout on Basic. Both still create labels. Decide whether pickup points are worth a plan change before you compare the apps.
A larger store with a WMS or ERP. Packrooster connects to WMS and ERP systems on its Premium plan. If that's a requirement, ask Shipit directly whether it covers your system, as its Shopify listing doesn't say.
How to do this in Shopify with Packrooster
Packrooster Shipping is made by Approosters in Finland. It doesn't sell shipping or show carrier prices. You connect your carriers, and they bill you directly.
- Install Packrooster from the Shopify App Store and pick a plan. Pickup points at checkout are included from the Standard plan and need carrier-calculated shipping on your Shopify plan.
- Connect your carriers. Add your Posti, Matkahuolto or PostNord customer numbers if you have your own agreements. If you don't, connect your Shipit account and ship on Shipit's agreements.
- Set your checkout rates. Choose which services customers see, such as Posti parcel lockers, Matkahuolto Lähellä-paketti and PostNord pickup points, and what you charge for each: flat rates, free shipping over a basket value, or rules by weight, product, zone or customer. Pickup points and service lists come live from the carriers.
- Print labels. One at a time, in bulk or automatically when an order is paid, sorted by Shopify location if you ship from more than one.
- Ship outside the EU. For parcels to Norway, the UK or Switzerland, Packrooster creates the customs documents from your product data when the label is made.

Frequently asked questions
Is Shipit free on Shopify?
The Shipit Delivery Checkout app is free to install, and Shipit's Free package has no monthly fee when you ship on Shipit's own agreements. You still pay for every shipment at Shipit's prices. If you want to use your own carrier agreements, you need a paid package (€9.90-€99.90 a month) and pay €0.14-€0.20 per label.
What is a good Shipit alternative for Shopify?
If you want to use your own carrier agreements, look at apps built around them. Packrooster covers the Finnish carriers and many in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, on unlimited carriers from the free Starter plan. It also connects to Shipit, so you can keep shipping on Shipit's agreements while you switch. Our Finland app comparison covers more options.
Can I use my own Posti or Matkahuolto agreement with Shipit?
Yes, on a paid Shipit TMS package. Start covers one carrier agreement, Growth three and Pro has no limit, and each label on your own agreement costs €0.14-€0.20. Shipit's Free package only works with Shipit's agreements.
Can I use Shipit with Packrooster?
Yes. Packrooster has a Shipit integration, so you can ship on Shipit's agreements through Packrooster, with labels, pickup points, return labels and customs documents. You can connect your own carrier agreements alongside it.
Does Shipit work on Shopify Basic?
Yes, but without pickup-point selection at checkout. Shipit says Basic doesn't support carrier-calculated shipping, so you set up fixed-price shipping methods in Shopify instead. The same limit applies to Packrooster and other apps that add pickup points to checkout.
Do I need my own carrier agreement to ship from a Shopify store in Finland?
No. An aggregator such as Shipit lets you ship without one, either in its own app or through Packrooster. Once you're sending a steady volume, ask Posti, Matkahuolto and PostNord for an offer and compare it with what you're paying per parcel now.
Which is cheaper, Shipit Delivery Checkout or Packrooster Shipping?
It depends on whose agreements you use, how many carriers you need and how many labels you send. On Shipit's agreements you pay no monthly fee but pay Shipit's parcel prices. On your own agreements, both apps charge a monthly fee and a fee per label.
Here's one example: a store with its own agreements with three carriers (say Posti, Matkahuolto and PostNord), 300 labels a month, pickup points at checkout and Shopify Grow with carrier-calculated shipping. The carriers' own freight charges are left out, because they're the same in both apps. Prices are list prices excluding VAT, checked 20 October 2026.
| App | How it's calculated | Monthly cost | First 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipit Delivery Checkout | Start package €9.90 + two extra carrier agreements €19.80 + 300 labels × €0.20 (€60.00) | €89.70 | €1,076.40 |
| Shipit Delivery Checkout with Multi Location and Pack & Scan | €89.70 + Multi Location $10 + Pack & Scan on Grow $19.90 ($29.90 = €26.64) | €116.34 | €1,396.04 |
| Packrooster Shipping | Standard plan $29 + 200 labels × $0.20 ($40) + 100 labels × $0.10 ($10) = $79 | €70.38 | €844.54 |
Dollar prices are converted at the ECB reference rate of 19 October 2026 (1 EUR = 1.1225 USD). Packrooster's Standard plan is used because pickup points at checkout start on Standard, and it includes multi-location shipping and scan to fulfil, which is why the second Shipit row adds those two add-ons. Shipit's Start package plus extra carriers is its cheapest option for three carriers; on the Growth package (€49.90 for three carriers, €0.16 per label) the same store would pay €97.90 a month before add-ons. Shipit's optional setup help (from €100 + VAT) is not included.
The result moves with your volume and the features you need. If you only ship from one location and don't scan orders, compare the first Shipit row with Packrooster. Packrooster's label fee drops further at 1,000 labels a month, and Shipit's Growth and Pro packages lower its label fee as well. The price comparison tool lets you put in your own numbers.
