Nordic Black Friday & Christmas Shipping Deadlines 2026

Nordic Black Friday & Christmas Shipping Deadlines 2026

Last updated 28 September 2026. Carriers publish their Christmas dates at different times. Where a 2026 date isn't out yet we show last year's date and flag it, and we'll update this page as soon as the official dates land.

A Christmas shipping deadline is the last day you can hand a parcel to a carrier and still expect it to arrive before Christmas. In the Nordics that means before Christmas Eve, 24 December, because that's when Finland, Sweden and Norway actually celebrate. A parcel that shows up on the 25th has missed Christmas.

In 2026 Christmas Eve falls on a Thursday. That gives carriers Monday to Wednesday (21-23 December) as the final delivery days, and it pushes some domestic deadlines later than in 2025, when Christmas Eve was a Wednesday. Black Friday is on 27 November and Cyber Monday on 30 November, so Black Week and the Christmas rush start in the same week.

Finland: Posti and Matkahuolto deadlines 2026

Matkahuolto has already published its 2026 dates:

Destination Last sending day 2026
Domestic parcels (Finland) Mon 21 December
Nordic countries and Baltics Fri 18 December
Rest of Europe Thu 10 December

Matkahuolto also runs Saturday deliveries from late November to cope with the peak.

Posti hasn't published its 2026 Christmas dates yet (it usually does in November). Here's what it used in 2025, which is a sensible planning baseline:

Destination Posti 2025 date (reference)
Domestic parcels Fri 19 December
Pikkupaketti (letterbox parcel) Tue 16 December
Nordic countries and Baltics Tue 16 December (Denmark earlier for some services)
Other European countries Wed 10 December
Outside Europe Wed 3 December

Since Christmas Eve is a day later in the week this year, Posti's 2026 domestic date may well land on Monday 21 December like Matkahuolto's did. Don't bank on it. Plan for Friday 18 December until Posti confirms, and treat anything later as a bonus.

If you ship with either carrier through Shopify, our Posti and Matkahuolto integration pages cover the services and pickup-point options, and the shipping from Finland guide covers the rest.

Sweden: PostNord deadlines 2026

PostNord Sweden has published its 2026 business dates:

Service / destination Last drop-off 2026
1st class letter (domestic) Fri 18 December
PostNord Service Point, PostNord Home, PostNord Parcel Locker, PostNord Home Small Prio (Varubrev ekonomi), Express letters, registered and insured mail (domestic) Mon 21 December
PostNord Parcel (domestic, to businesses) Tue 22 December
Letters and parcels within the EU, plus Norway, Iceland and Switzerland Fri 11 December
Letters and parcels to the rest of Europe (non-EU) Fri 4 December
Letters and parcels outside Europe Fri 27 November

Two operational details matter more than the dates for most Swedish merchants:

  • From 23 November 2026 to 8 January 2027, the cut-off for booking a same-day pickup is 10:00. Book after that, or book more than five pallet spaces, and PostNord collects the next working day. If you're used to booking pickups after lunch, Black Friday is a bad day to find this out.
  • PostNord sorts parcels on Sundays from Black Friday through Christmas and does Saturday home deliveries from 28 November to 12 December where volumes allow (and ongoing Saturday deliveries in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö).

Note the gap between the Nordic/EU deadline (11 December) and the domestic one (21 December). If you sell from Sweden into Finland or Norway, your cross-border customers need a much earlier "order by" date than your Swedish ones. Norway: Posten and Bring deadlines 2026

Posten Bring hasn't published its 2026 Christmas deadlines yet. These are the 2025 business deadlines, which is the best guide until the new ones are out:

Service / destination Posten Bring 2025 deadline (reference)
Domestic parcels (Pakke til bedrift, Pakke til hentested, Pakke levert hjem) 17-19 December, depending on route
Pakke i postkassen (letterbox parcel) 18 Dec within South or North Norway; 16 Dec between them
Express (Pakke til bedrift ekspress, Norgespakke neste dag) 19 December
Same-day delivery within the same city 23 December
Home Delivery (large and heavy items) 15 Dec South Norway; 10 Dec North Norway
International express - Europe 18 December
Letters to Sweden and Denmark 15 December
Letters to rest of Nordics and Germany 12 December

Two things to plan around in Norway. First, in 2025 Bring added one extra day to its normal transit times from 24 November to 4 January for its main parcel services. Expect something similar in 2026 and build it into the delivery estimates you show at checkout. Second, deadlines depend on distance. A parcel going from Oslo to Tromsø needs to leave days earlier than one going across town, so if a meaningful share of your customers are in Northern Norway, use the earlier date.

Selling into Norway from Finland or Sweden also means customs and VOEC. If that's you, have a look at shipping to Norway before the rush, not during it. Our Bring page covers the integration side.

Denmark and the express carriers

In Denmark, PostNord and GLS both recommended 19 December as the last drop-off for domestic Christmas delivery in 2025, and Bring Denmark used the same date. 2026 dates aren't out yet.

DHL Express and UPS deliver right up to 23 December in most of the Nordics, but their cut-offs depend on your account, your pickup time and the destination postcode. If express is your "last chance" option, ask your account manager for the exact dates now. Express capacity gets tight in the final week, and a quote from October is worth more than a guess in December.

How to turn a carrier deadline into your own "order by" date

The carrier's date is when the parcel has to be in their hands, not when your customer has to order. Work backwards:

Customer order-by date = carrier deadline - your dispatch time - one buffer day

A worked example for a Finnish store shipping domestically with Matkahuolto:

  • Carrier deadline: Monday 21 December
  • Your dispatch time: orders ship the next working day
  • Buffer: one day, because December volumes are unpredictable

That makes the latest safe order date Thursday 17 December. Orders on Friday 18 December would technically go out on Monday 21st, but there's no margin at all if a label fails or a pickup gets missed. Put 17 December on the website and treat the 18th as quiet overflow.

If you ship to several countries, you'll end up with several order-by dates. That's fine, just list them clearly by country instead of choosing one date and hoping.

Where to show the deadlines in your Shopify store

A deadline only helps if customers see it before they buy. The places that actually get read:

  1. Announcement bar. One line, updated as dates pass: "Order by 17 Dec for delivery in Finland before Christmas."
  2. Product pages, near the add-to-cart button. This is where the purchase decision is made.
  3. Checkout shipping options. The shipping method name and description are the last thing a customer reads before paying. Adding "Delivered before Christmas if ordered by 17 Dec" to the relevant option answers the question right when it matters.
  4. Order confirmation emails, so customers have the delivery expectation in writing.
  5. A shipping FAQ page with the full country-by-country table. Link to it from the announcement bar.

Once a deadline passes, change the wording the same day. "Order by 17 Dec" still showing on the 19th turns into support tickets and bad reviews.

What to offer after the deadline passes

Missing the standard deadline doesn't have to mean losing the sale.

  • Express shipping. Most carriers keep express services running a few days longer. Show it at checkout as a paid option once standard delivery can't make it.
  • Pickup points and parcel lockers. They're often faster in the last week than home delivery, and they avoid failed delivery attempts when people are away visiting family. If you use Packrooster, the carrier's live pickup points at checkout are already there for customers to choose from.
  • Local pickup from your store or warehouse, if you have one.
  • Gift cards, which arrive instantly by email and save a last-minute buyer who would otherwise shop elsewhere.

Black Friday isn't a deadline, it's a capacity test

Black Friday orders aren't at risk of missing Christmas. The risk is that the volume slows your whole operation just as the first Christmas orders arrive. A few things to line up before 23 November:

  • Confirm pickup times and booking cut-offs with each carrier. PostNord Sweden's 10:00 rule is one example, and others tighten up too.
  • Tell your carriers if your volume will jump. Both PostNord and Bring ask merchants to flag big volume changes early so they can plan capacity. It also helps you get collected.
  • Batch your labels and customs paperwork. Printing labels one by one is what turns Black Friday into a late night. Batch label printing and pre-filled customs data keep dispatch to minutes.
  • Pad your delivery estimates. Nordic carriers routinely add a day to transit times in peak season. Transit times that were accurate in October won't be in late November.

Frequently asked questions

When is Black Friday 2026? Friday 27 November 2026. Cyber Monday is 30 November, and most Nordic retailers run Black Week from Monday 23 November.

What is the last day to send a parcel in Finland for Christmas 2026? Matkahuolto's deadline for domestic parcels is Monday 21 December 2026. Posti hadn't published its 2026 dates when this post was written. Its 2025 domestic deadline was Friday 19 December.

What is PostNord's Christmas deadline in Sweden for 2026? For parcels to PostNord Service Points, home delivery and parcel lockers inside Sweden, it's Monday 21 December 2026. PostNord Parcel to businesses has until Tuesday 22 December. For the EU, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland, the deadline is Friday 11 December.

What is the last day to send parcels in Norway before Christmas 2026? Posten Bring hasn't confirmed its 2026 dates yet. In 2025, domestic parcel deadlines were 17-19 December depending on route, with earlier dates for shipments to or from Northern Norway.

Why do Nordic Christmas deadlines matter more than in other countries? Because the Nordics celebrate on Christmas Eve, 24 December, parcels have to arrive a day earlier than in countries that open gifts on the 25th. Most carriers also close their terminals on Christmas Eve.

Should my store's "order by" date be the same as the carrier's deadline? No. Take the carrier's deadline, subtract your own dispatch time, then subtract at least one buffer day. That's the date your customers need to see.
